ICOS Backs Potential Reform of European Milk Market Observatory
With the European Milk Market Observatory passing it’s year anniversary of existence, ICOS has welcomed moves by the commission to see can it be improved to be more useful to farmers and the dairy industry in general.
ICOS has participated actively and constructively on the economic board of the body since its foundation and is seen as a progressive and informed member.
With the ending of the quota system ICOS sees the need of such a body to contribute to improve price transparency for use by our dairy co-operative members.
Members of the Hogan team and officials of DG Agriculture are looking at changes that are expected to improve the publication of data & analysis on future market trends.
ICOS will be working with officials to ensure that workable information that will help farmers and their coops develop tools that might help control some dairy price volatility, such as forward contracts and even possibly dairy futures.
