The Future of Learning & Development
ICOS Learning & Development Direction
- To Provide strategic learning and development direction on behalf of the co-operative sector and to identify work projects which support the achievement of the strategic learning and development for the sector.
- To provide direction on the development of policy in all matters relating to co-operative education and training and progress therein both at national and international levels and to assist in formulating the education policy, including the identification of specialisations.
- In collaboration with industry develop a framework to support, coordinate, promote, align and sustain the co-operative sector’s learning & development initiatives.
ICOS Learning & Development Advisory Capacity
The broader remit of the ICOS L&D committee will be to take on an advisory role in line with other ICOS committees. The advice will relate directly to learning and development and will include known areas of legislative requirements (where appropriate), areas of funding and advice on best practice within industry, to include developments in learning and development, new and innovative approaches to L&D delivery and benchmarking against other industries, both nationally and internationally.
In addition, the ICOS L&D committee will develop an industry Competency Model to support ongoing setting of standards through the development of national occupation standards.
ICOS Learning & Development Internationalisation
A core part of the ICOS Learning & Development will include an international dimension exploring how other geographies are developing skills and in what area and to benchmark the Irish offering against these. This will include exploring the potential of participation in both European and other International learning and development forums with a view to ensuring competitiveness and long term sustainability for our member organisations.
ICOS Learning & Development Diversification of Funding
A key aspect for the ICOS L&D function is to maintain existing levels of funding on behalf of the co-operative sector and to diversify and explore other sources of potential funding from national, transnational or international sources, to support business growth for our member organisations across the industry.
Exploring Innovative Ways to Support Learning
The ICOS L&D function will have a responsibility to keep up-to-date with new and evolving trends in learning and development, including new technologies and approaches to learning delivery and advise and/or work collaboratively with the industry to develop suitable solutions for the sector.
Such solutions may include, but are not limited to:
- Blended learning
- 70:20:10 model of learning
- Use of social media as a learning tool
- Webinars
- You tube channels
- LinkedIn communities of practise
