ICOS Marts Committee

The ICOS Marts Committee is comprised of 13 representatives spanning the marts membership of ICOS. Representative from all areas of the country are members of the committee.

The current Chair of the Committee is Sean Brosnan from Castleisland Co-operative Livestock Mart Limited.

The Committee’s main role is to consider and approve any policy submissions being made to Government and other agencies in respect of the ongoing continuance of livestock marketing through the live auction ring process.

Current committee work:

• DAFM representation for marts regarding movements, live exports, grant aid, hygiene, cattle and sheep regulatory issues
• Represents ICOS at AHI implementation groups.
• PSRA representation and liaison for all co-op marts.
• Interaction with all beef and sheep stakeholders such as Bord Bia, Meat Industry Ireland, IFA, ICMSA, ICSA etc. on issues affecting mart sales.
• Stakeholder interaction regarding the implementation of new veterinary medicine regulations, Veterinary council of Ireland, Veterinary Ireland, DAFM.
• Rules reviews for all marts to ensure regulatory compliance with the register of friendly societies.
• Represent marts in EU forums on the review of EU transport of cattle and sheep regulations.
